JULIE IN GENDERLAND
Across the UK, loving parents have been threatened, shunned and sometimes driven to considering suicide by the authorities they once trusted…

Julie Bindel is a feminist campaigner, journalist, author, and co-founder and director of The Lesbian Project. Julie's next book, published Spring 2025, is Lesbians: Where are we now?

This episode explores:

  • Julie’s experience going undercover to expose gay conversion therapy, drawing parallels between that and what she calls modern-day "gay conversion therapy" in the form of transgender ideology targeting gender-nonconforming youth.

  • How narratives around sexuality, especially the idea of being "born this way," have evolved.

  • The weaponization of female empathy in trans activism, and the intersection of victimhood and perpetration.

  • Julie’s investigation of the infamous “grooming gangs” Rochdale child abuse scandal, highlighting the systemic failures that occur when marginalized groups, particularly vulnerable girls, are neglected by those in power, like social workers and law enforcement — drawing parallels that there are underlying societal dynamics at play complicating the narratives around gender identity, victimization, and empowerment.

  • Trust in medical professionals and the societal factors influencing parents' decisions, specifically surrounding the experiences of working-class families and the impact of mental health narratives in vulnerable situations.

  • Julie’s latest podcast series, Julie in Genderland, and its examination into the devastating impact of gender ideology on families and children, the extremes of parental reactions, the marginalization of moderate voices, and the nuanced struggles families face in seeking support.

With insights into radical gender politics, parental trauma, and the complexities of lesbian identity, this episode offers listeners an enlightening exploration of gender issues, feminism, child safeguarding, and activism. It sheds light on the intricate intersections of identity, politics, and personal experiences in today's sociopolitical climate.
