"Mercilessly Attacked" for Not Wanting to Transition Children, with Rep. Shawn Thierry

"I think this is a war against children."

Stella and Sasha welcome former State Representative, Shawn Thierry, to the show to reflect on her role in passing legislation to protect minors from gender transition procedures and her unwavering dedication to integrity in the face of political and social pressures.

Shawn Thierry, the first woman to serve Texas House District 146, is a trailblazer and dedicated public servant. An alumna of Howard University and Thurgood Marshall School of Law, she has been a practicing attorney for 27 years and is a principal at Hardwick Law Firm, LLC.

She recently completed her fourth term in the Texas House of Representatives, served as Vice-Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, and was a member of the House Energy Resources Committee. She currently serves as Genspect USA’s Director of Public Policy, amplifying her efforts to advocate for thoughtful and inclusive policymaking. Known as a “voice for the voiceless,” she authored over 80 impactful bills during her legislative service, consistently advocated for mental health, and earned recognition as one of Houston's top 30 most influential women.

In this episode, Shawn Thierry champions principled leadership and thoughtful policymaking, particularly regarding gender transition procedures for minors. The conversation explores Shawn’s observations on the progressive shift toward extremism, which she terms the "progressive abyss," and her encounters with colleagues pressuring her to conform to party lines. Known for her straightforward and accessible communication style, Shawn offers a refreshing perspective amidst the often convoluted language of academic and political discourse.

Shawn recounts her two-year research process leading to her instrumental role in the passing of Texas Senate Bill 14 (TX SB14), legislation that established a minimum age of 18 for gender transition procedures in Texas. Despite facing significant personal and professional risks, including threats and doxxing, she stood firm in her convictions, advocating for the protection of children and challenging the trend of what she describes as "adulting children."
