Who could have imagined that one of the most important court cases for women’s rights in our modern day (or possibly, ever!) would sound like an episode of Sesame Street: “Tickle v Giggle, Starring Roxy and Grover.“
If you’re not aware of this case, LGB Alliance published a good brief summary of it last week. Here’s a quote:
For anyone who has not heard of Sall Grover’s court case that will be heard in Federal Court on 9 April. This is the most significant case about women’s rights - ever. What’s at stake is our rights that have been stolen from us over the last 20 years, including;
· The rights of lesbians to hold public events that are women-only.
· The rights of girls and women to fair sport.
· The rights of women in prisons, hospitals and shelters to be physically and psychologically safe from men.
You can also listen to an excellent interview with Sall Grover on Louise Perry’s podcast here.
Or watch her talk about the case with Julie Bindel here:
As of this writing, the case was expected to begin today, the 9th of April. Are you following this historic case? What do you think about it?
Please discuss in the comments below.
Yes I'm following and support this. Women and girls are having biological men imposed on them by human rights ruling that trans identified males are legally female. Forgotten in these human rights rulings are the commitments made to enshrine women's rights and protections. Women historically have been victims of domestic violence, physical, & sexual assault most often perpetrated by men. Activism allows trans identified men potentially with unchecked sexual paraphilias to enter women's spaces subjecting women and girls to potential danger and humiliation. Women have rights to women only safe spaces, social and sporting events without the presence of men. It's time remember societies commitments to the rights of women and girls.
In Australia there is little awareness of the issue among the general public. I hope that this case will shake things up and make people aware of the issues even if Sall doesn’t win her case. Whoever wins, there will probably be an appeal to the High Court, so it’ll be big news. Ultimately we need to change the law to make it clear that sex is binary and immutable.
