This gives me great hope, although I’m still cautiously optimistic. Your podcast with January Littlejohn this week echoes so many of our stories. Ours is so similar down to the one-year younger brother and me having a good friend say “what if your kid is just trans?” The difference being that our school seemingly took heed in our concerns if for no other reason than their bottom line and reputation. I’m so thankful every day for the work you two and everyone here is doing. And for someone to just be willing to listen to parents.

I hope the tide is turning but I also fear being let down. I think so many people are tired of being asked to believe ridiculous things and are getting less fearful of speaking out as news slowly leaks out about how harmful this movement is. I've notice more people openly supporting JK Rowling.

My dad was mildly captured but the NYT article along with some other things he's seen about detransistioners did get him to come around to a more sane position. I think this is going to reach the people who supported it because they were misinformed about the evidence base but those deep in the movement are likely going to continue to cling to it I'm afraid. But if the medical organizations start implementing reasonable measures and if people stop losing their jobs for asserting biological reality then they'll be toothless at least.

I wish it were that simple! Yes, I can see more people daring to speak out now, but still, an entire generation of trainee therapists, (preschool) teachers, healthcare workers, and so on are currently being schooled in the gender identity paradigm. Plus, an enormous network has been created of professionals whose livelihood is directly dependent on perpetuating this way of seeing the world. It is heartening to see individuals speaking out, but until professional organizations and governments take a stand, I'm afraid we (parents) are still fighting an uphill battle. This is not to pessimistic, by the way, I do believe change is happening for the better, but I don't think the gender genie can be pushed back into the bottle. We simply have to learn to deal with it effectively, I guess.

There was a long road to creating this mess, but on the other hand a lot of things can change quickly, 10, 15 years ago we weren't hearing much about it at all.

And there is a lot of wish for change right now about how young people have been taught to look for harm and aggression everywhere, destabilizing their mental health. The rise in these conditions parallels that of teen distres.

I am hoping that those pushing the lies will be publicly shamed (you told that person they'd commit suicide??? You didn't tell them they had other options? What??), that it will become widely known that it is just embarrassing to be pushing these dangerous lies on people.

Embarrassment can work wonders. Although I would also like to see legal consequences, given the harm so many people have suffered, young people, families....

I do think the available space for discussion is being dominated by immigration and the various military conflicts going on, but if we can keep the momentum up with a continuous barrage of revelations then these two events will be more critical, especially against the narrative of it being only a conservative issues.

Does anyone know about Michael Shellenberger's release of the WPATH files? He thought they would be out by the end of 2023 when he introduced them at the Genspect conference in Denver.

I urge everyone to listen to the latest Transparency podcast with the two Aarons and Eliza Mondegreen discussing the article. https://youtu.be/Pz2xO8Ctc4w?si=OVoBo3jnk7xukyyb I think we are seeing a slow turn of the tide, not in the way we would like, with accountability and apology by the doctors that have harmed our children, but a slow walking back and redefining of the term 'gender affirming'. At some point they will claim that gender affirming therapy always meant watchful waiting which we know is bs. I think they hope that they can walk the terminology back in time for when the majority of the population begins to look under the hood of what 'gender affirming' really means. They better act fast because people are waking up. What will be interesting is how or if trans becomes an election issue for the fall. When fingers start being pointed, opposing sides tend to become more entrenched, not less. Expect a interesting ride. Will trans activists double down or say 'nothing to see here'? Regardless, we might see some movement if that happens. I sincerely hope the proposed ballot initiative in CA is able to muster enough signatures to get on the ballot, regardless of the horrid renaming of the bill by our elected officials. Go here if you are a resident of CA to sign please! https://protectkidsca.com/

I understand. I’m in the same boat but after seeing the piles of signatures already gathered by a friend, I realized that the likelihood of my daughter seeing my name out of hopefully thousands and thousands was worth the risk. It is so important to get this on the ballot. It’s a powerful chance to turn things around in the U.S. with only a signature that will become part of a whole tide.

I don’t think we will know how many signatures there are until all the ballot sheets are sent in but from what I’m hearing from boots on the ground is that almost everyone is happily signing and there are many volunteers.

I have been involved with some of the signature gathering for the initiative. Of course we choose events where we expect folks to agree. I was at LA's March for Life a couple of weeks ago. Erin Friday was at a gun show last weekend (a definite first for the life-long democrat she is....) Erin was also at the 49ers/Green Bay game along with Billboard Chris and Chloe Cole. It was almost unanimous support from those they talked to. If we can just get those signatures this should pass easily, which would be a real watershed moment for the movement. But this is still very much grass roots -- we do not have the big organization a trade or labor group typically has for these efforts.

I was hopeful, but so far not a peep from NPR, KUOW, or other Seattle news sources on the Tacoma whistleblower.

Is the tide turning? Maybe a bit on our level but for kids I think not. The ideology is being encouraged 24-7 online.

The NYT also published a follow up noting that the detransition rate is not known (the earlier article referenced the really flawed 1% paper)-- https://www.nytimes.com/live/2024/01/30/opinion/thepoint/transgender-detransitioning-numbers?smid=url-share

I am not encouraged. This was the 3rd item that came up when I searched Detrans Awareness Day. https://www.advocate.com/politics/republicans-celebrate-detrans-awareness-day

"Fringe figures and Republicans Unite" was the lead and the title of the article was

"Trump’s anti-trans agenda takes center stage at planned 'Detrans Awareness Day' events." Of course this is from the Advocate but still, the distortion and dismissal is disgusting. These brave young people who have detransitioned and other young people who disagree with trans activism need to get louder and more angry. And people in the LGB community who can safely raise their voices need to do so. We are all so cowed and scared and I have talked to so many women in the lesbian community where I live who disagree with children being medicalized and transitioned, but they are afraid to raise their voices too high. And I don't blame them. Bring on the lawsuits, tell the Democratic Party to stop their fealty to this agenda, and those who can, keep talking. Long way to go I'm afraid. I was a little encouraged by Gavin Newsome's opposition to males competing in female sports. Good for him.
