Great special episode! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: the needle will not move until (prominent) liberals start speaking up. And prominent liberals won’t speak up until less prominent liberals speak up…so if you’re liberal: speak up in your social group!! You don’t have to terrify people with a conspiracy-theory sounding rant. You can just wait for the topic to come up and say “yeah, I don’t believe in gender identity, it’s a concept that violates my commitment to feminism and gay rights.” I have literally said this and the person ended up agreeing with me.
Im just going to say I literally remember where I was standing and what I was doing when you were pondering what might have happened with soc8. I totally remember that episode where you two were like...
WTAF??? This is so weird! Soc 8 all of a sudden dropped the age requirements.🤔🤔🤔
And then you speculated a bit. And Stella was baffled and Sasha was annoyed and I was like... ahhhh! This is better than true crime (ive never listened to a true crime pod but this trans thing has been enough to satisfy my endless curiosity). And i had absolutely no one to share it with because it sounded too insane. Which is why I was an early adopter at the Unspeakeasy. It was a release valve.
Its WILD, having barely missed any episodes of your pod since nearly the beginning, now seeing it unfold this way. I've been following Lisa too. Since she wrote that piece about being a tomboy, in the Globe I think.
It would actually be interesting to have a producer make a clip reel of some of your "wtf?" And "ah ha!" moments along the way and as this unfolds. It would speak to your honesty and true compassion for these kids and families. But also your tenacity and dilligence. You really have been invested in all the right ways, seeking truth no matter where it leads, very publicly, and very ethically. Heroic in my opinion!
This is insanity the hits just seem to keep coming from the Cass review to this and the US seems to barely cover it. Thank you for all you do. It’s really hard to trust the mainstream media and our government knowing the decisions are not based on scientific evidence instead it’s political. Really hoping this is another giant wind gust to knock their house of cards down.
I want to shout all of his insanity from the rooftops but I know people would think I've lost my mind and have become an insane conspiracy theorist. It's so frustrating....I will continue to talk with those in important positions and keep bugging my elected reps and demand answers from these policy making groups such as the AAP, APA, etc.
Thank you Lisa for so much work putting the threads together and summarizing what has been revealed so that we parents can find ways to help others understand that the science is NOT settled. Media is so corrupt. I guess smart people like you and others need to keep chipping away until one day someone caves.
I do not know how to read these things, but what I can see is that, for QOL, Depression, and Anxiety, the study says that though "gender affirming care" *may* improve those things, the "strength of evidence for this conclusion is low".
We're looking into this but this study is not specific to kids, teens, or minors. If JHU was commissioned to do a study specific to minors this isn't it. We'll follow up when we can clarify things further. Thanks!
Thank you for looking into this. Looking forward to hearing what you find out. The most recent Blocked and Reported talks about this study and puts it into more context. Thanks for all you do.
It appears that they let JHU publish two reviews that had conclusions they approved of, and prevented them from publishing the others, as well as altering the process so that they would no longer be evidence-based.
The White House is doing some interesting back-peddling. This article was published in the New York Times after we recorded this episode. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/06/28/health/transgender-surgery-biden.html
Thank you so much for this episode. Started looking for more about the Johns Hopkins research, and found this news report from May (before Alabama?): https://abc3340.com/news/nation-world/trans-health-group-fought-study-analyzing-gender-affirming-care-for-children-docs-show-johns-hopkins-university-researchers-world-professional-association-for-transgender-health-do-no-harm-lgbt-puberty-blockers-hormone-therapy

Thank you for your work!
I wish I would have found more people like you 10 years ago when my daughter went down this path.
It’s been such a struggle

This is so important. Thank you for putting this information all in one place.

Ok - following up. Someone in the Youtube comments has indicated that this is the JH study: https://academic.oup.com/jes/article/5/4/bvab011/6126016

Here is some further context:
Here's the registration for the 13 studies that, in theory, would have been commissioned.
